Pastel butterfly birthday cake

  • Posted on July 31, 2008 at 10:04 pm

This is a pretty pastel butterfly birthday cake, or could be celebration cake for any occasion.  All these butterflies are hand made and painted with a subtle sheen to make them glow.  The cake would work equally well in bold colours, if that is your theme.

The cake is a rich dark chocolate cake, triple layer, filled and coated with whipped chocolate butter cream.  A cake like this would feed around 20-25 people and the butterflies, once removed, would last for a long time.

Book birthday cake

This cake was a celebration for a fellow who loved genealogy, hence the family tree.  I hand painted and piped the names of his favourite books around the side, both fiction and reference.  All the hand made decorations were able to be kept and preserved for years to come.

The cake was made with the finest spices, including cinnamon, ginger, white pepper, allspice and cumin.  It was light and fragrant, triple layer with whipped Madagascan vanilla butter cream, topped with white fondant icing and hand piped with royal icing.

A Tardis cake made for a Dr. Who fan.  The little fellow was delighted and his friends all amazed.  It was made from stacked chocolate cake with whipped chocolate butter cream, finished with blue coloured fondant and dusted with a subtle sheen of reflective sparkles.  Everyone liked this cake and came back for more and more.

Fairy waterfall birthday cake

I made this cake for a fairy mad little girl.  It was such a success and she was so delighted that she smiled all week!  The sponge was moist milk chocolate cake coated and filled with whipped chocolate butter cream.   A cake like this would feed around 50 people, but you could have smaller versions to feed around 10-15 or one to feed 20-25 people.

Fairy tale castle wedding cake

  • Posted on July 29, 2008 at 10:17 pm

This is a truly stunning wedding cake, with towers, tiers, a moat with swans, ducks, birds on the towers, hand painted butterflies on the corners, a clock showing the time of the wedding, interlinked initials, and a flag made from the same material as the bride’s dress.  Everyone commented on this cake, saying how beautiful it was.  It was made with three layers of moist dark chocolate cake and a fruit cake at the top to set off the towers and turrets.  This also allowed the bride to keep it and enjoy it as a castle long after the wedding.  It was offered as a desert and fed 160 people.

This cake was made entirely from rich dark chocolate sponge, decorated with white chocolate curls and finished with fresh flowers that matched the bride’s bouquet.  It was served as a desert with cream and berries.  A cake like this one would feed 150 people served as a desert or 200 people served with coffee.
